The corona pandemic abruptly changed and limited our lives. According to a study, many parents in the U.S. didn’t want to put up with it.
Numerous parents did not leave their children at home despite Corona infection. At least in the U.S., that’s what a survey suggests. According to the study, over a quarter of parents have given false information or deliberately ignored protective measures.
According to the study’s authors, this behaviour may have contributed to the spread of the coronavirus, which was published in the journal Jama Network Open.
In December 2021, 580 parents with whom children under 18 lived during the pandemic were surveyed for the study. One in four parents said they had concealed an existing or suspected Corona infection in their child. This was reportedly accompanied by parents’ permission to disregard quarantine regulations.
There are many reasons for this:
About 50 percent made false claims to do what they thought was best for their family.
More than 40 percent of parents concealed Corona status because they didn’t want their children to miss school.
About 35 percent of guardians resorted to lying partly because they could not afford to miss work days and would have had no one at home to care for the children.
For the same backgrounds, about 60 percent of parents deceived others about their child’s immunization status. However, some mothers and fathers also made their children older than they were so they could be vaccinated.
However, the study does not reflect the demographic makeup of the U.S., as 70 percent of respondents were women. The researchers also suspect some participants may have lied. “Lying about lying is certainly a possibility,” Angela Fagerlin, lead author of the study, said in a news release. “Twenty-six percent is probably the minimum number of parents who misreported their children’s Covid 19 status during the pandemic.”
